.....But this post is almost compulsory!

Ahh, i am so happy right now. As i mentioned earlier,i went for a scan,and although the little one was beyond awkward most of the time, putting her feet right in front of her face, blocking sight of most of her body and not shoving from that position no matter what we did, when she finally did move and let us have a proper look it was well worth the wait!
She has the most beautiful little baby face i have ever seen! Beautiful little eyes, beautiful little nose and these amazing lips. She is the most beautiful baby i have ever seen!!
Apart from being so incredibly gorgeous, she is a very healthy little baby which i am obviously very pleased about. shes slightly bigger than an average baby of her ¨age¨ (i am 26 weeks pregnant,and she is the size of a 27-and-a half week foetus) so the gynaecologist reckoned that from the size she is now, around 2lbs, she should be around 7lbs when born.



After the scan, my husband bought some new maternity trousers for me, as all my clothes are very quickly running out! So i got a pair of black cargo pants and some ¨skinny¨ jeans (skinny jeans in style only, as they dont cling onto the skin in the same way normal skinny jeans do). Both have stretchy elastic around the waist so theres lots of room to grow into, which is always a good thing. The jeans fit straight away, but the cargo pants are a little loose right now (but not for long! I am almost certain that within a week or two they will fit perfect!). I bought a UK size 12 (which after a quick google search is a USA size  6 or 8 nd a European size 40), which is a size bigger than i usually wear. But i am growing very quickly and all my size 10 clothes are long since getting too small so I cant take the risk getting size 10s at the moment. After all, its better they are a little loose now and i have plenty of room to grow into later on, than clothes that fit perfectly now but will be outgrown in weeks.

I have a scan later today. Not just any scan though, its a 3D scan. Looking forward very much to it! We've been told it will be a very good image, as the baby is of quite a big size now. Very exciting!! 

Leaves that Literally Move by Themselves

Katydids are fascinating little buggers, er, bugs. More than 6,400 species exist so it’s not surprising they come in a range of shapes, sizes and colors, or that they have adapted to blend with their habitats to avoid becoming lunch. Leaf mimic katydids are the most adept at getting lost in the undergrowth. Their bodies have evolved to look just like dead, dying or discoloured leaves, and the longer they avoid detection, the better their disguise becomes.

It would be all too easy to stand on one of these little fellers. Up close, the lie of the viens, discoloration of the body and small speckles are uncanningly similar to those of a real leaf. It’s no wonder these creatures can go without be discovered by their predators.

Praying mantis are other intriguing specimens, some of them also live with the same leafy disguise. Mantises, as a group, are excellent predators themselves, using their camouflage to surprise unsuspecting prey. They often blend with their surroundings but some have developed in various ways to mimic leaves, twigs, flowers and grass, much like the katydid.

Many mantises are also able to change their covering on the go – some species in Australia and Africa will turn soot black on their next molt following a fire. The specimen below was photographed in Halong Bay, Vietnam, so it seems these clever creatures know no bounds.
